Welcome to the Sumter County Museum's virtual exhibit Glimpses into the Past: Postcards of Sumter, SC!

This virtual exhibit is part of our upcoming exhibit called Glimpses into the Past: Postcards of Sumter, SC on display in McKenzie Hall of the Heritage Education Center.  Visit our museum to see this exhibit (opening in July) and learn more about Sumter County, S.C. history!  The Sumter County Museum is open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

The site includes postcards from the early 1900s to the present. Most of the postcards have dates listed by them on the site.  Some, however, were never postmarked.  We have added trivia in red to let you guess what time period/decade they represent!

Do you have any postcards showing Sumter's development?  Let us know and we can include them on this website!

Images and text on these pages are intended for research or educational use only.  Please contact Annie Rivers at arivers@sumtercountymuseum.org for information on how to cite an image or obtain a photocopy.

Teachers: As part of this virtual exhibit, we have created a teacher guide perfect for most ages and classes studying SC history or US history.  We hope that this site will increase students' knowledge and appreciation of their hometown.  For more information, please contact the museum at (803) 775-0908 or email us at information@sumtercountymuseum.org.
